Seismic Activity of "the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquakes"

In the Noto Peninsula, the seismic activity has been high since December 2020, with an M6.5 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 6 Upper) on May 5, 2023. The active area up to December 2023 was about 30 km square in the northeastern Noto Peninsula.
After an M7.6 (maximum seismic intensity 7) earthquake occurred at 16:10 on January 1, 2024, at a depth of 16 km in the Noto region, Ishikawa Prefecture, seismic activity became higher, with the active area extending NE-SW for about 150 km around the Noto Peninsula and offshore northeast of it.
Although the number of earthquakes has been gradually decreasing, an M6.6 earthquake (maximum intensity 5 Lower) occurred offshore west of Ishikawa Prefecture on November 26, 2024, at the western end of the seismically active area after the M7.6 earthquake. The region has remained active with 12 earthquakes of seismic intensity 1 or over in April (of these, 6 events in the seismically active area of the M6.6 earthquake offshore west of Ishikawa Prefecture). The largest earthquake in April was an M3.9 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 1) at 22:14 on the 15th at a depth of 11 km offshore west of Ishikawa Prefecture.
