Seismic Activity in the Noto Region, Ishikawa Prefecture



In the Noto region, Ishikawa prefecture (within the green square in the epicenters map), the number of earthquakes is increasing since about 2018, and the seismic activity has become high since December 2020, and it has become higher since about July 2021. In August 2023, the state of high activity continues. The largest in August 2023 is the M3.4 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 1) offshore the Noto Peninsula occurring on 3rd. The largest in the whole period of the seismic activity is the M6.5 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 6 Upper) occurring on May 5, 2023 at 14:42 (JST).
After the occurrence of the M6.5 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 6 Upper) on May 5, 2023, the seismic activity became higher, but the number of earthquakes is decreasing as time passes.
The number of earthquakes within the green square with seismic intensity 1 or over observed are shown in the graph and table of the number of earthquakes by period and by seismic intensity.
