Earthquake in the Northern Osaka Prefecture on June 18
On June 18, 2018 at 07:58 (JST), there was an M6.1 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 6 Lower) at a depth of 13 km in the northern Osaka prefecture. This event occurred within the crust. The focal mechanism had a compression axis in an E-W direction.
For the seismic activity since January 1995, in the vicinity of the recent event (Area a), there is a stationary seismic activity, of which at the southern end is situated the recent event. At about 60 km west-south-west of the recent event, there was the focus of an M7.3 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 7, "the 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu Earthquake") occurring on January 17, 1995, and its aftershock area extends in an NE-SW direction. At the time of that earthquake slip on the surface was observed at the Nojima fault, a segment of the Rokko-Awaji fault zone.
For the seismic activity since January 1923, in the area around the recent event (Area b), on February 21, 1936, there was an M6.4 earthquake (the Kawachi-Yamato Earthquake) which caused damage with house collapses at Osaka and Nara prefectures, such as 4 totally-collapsed houses at Osaka prefectures (Materials for Comprehensive List of Destructive Earthquakes in Japan).
