Seismic Activity of the Central Tottori Prefecture from October 15 (2)
For the seismic activity since January 1923, in the area around the recent activity (Area b), there was a M7.2 earthquake (the Tottori Earthquake) on September 10, 1943, which caused damage with 1,083 fatalities, 3,259 severely- or slightly-injured persons and so on. Also at several km south of the recent activity, there was a M6.2 earthquake on October 31, 1983, which caused damage with about 10 injured persons, shear fracture of a column of a reinforced concrete 3-story building and so on (both damage: Comprehensive Bibliography of Destructive Earthquakes in Japan). On October 6, 2000, "the 2000 western Tottori Prefecture Earthquake" (M7.3, maximum seismic intensity 6 Upper) occurred and caused damages with 182 injured persons, 435 totally- and 3,101 severely-collapsed houses (damage: Fire and Disaster Management Agency).
