Earthquake under the Ocean near Torishima on February 25



On February 25, 2015 at 16:00 (JST), there was a M6.1 earthquake (no observation for seismic intensity 1 or over) under the ocean near Torishima. The focal mechanism (CMT solution) showed a reverse fault type with a compression axis in an ENE-WSW direction.
For the seismic activity since October 1997, in the area around the recent event (Area a), there have sometimes been earthquakes of M5.0 or over.

For the seismic activity since January 1923, in the area around the recent event (Area b), there have sometimes been earthquakes of M6.0 or over, but no one with any damage.
