Earthquake in Eastern Yamanashi Prefecture - Fujigoko on December 11



On November 11, 2014 at 15:07 (JST), there was a M4.3 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 4) at a depth of 23 km in eastern Yamanashi prefecture - Fujigoko. The focal mechanism showed a reverse fault type with a compression axis in an NW-SE direction.
For the seismic activity since October 1997, in the vicinity of the recent event (Area a), there have sometimes been earthquakes of M4.0 or over, such as a M5.4 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 5 Lower) on January 28, 2012.
For the seismic activity since January 1960, in the area around the recent event (Area b), there have sometimes been earthquakes of M5.0 or over. A M6.0 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 4) on August 8, 1983 caused falling stones in Tanzawa mountains area, with damage of a fatality and 8 injured persons. In addition, damage of 33 in total injured persons and 2 totally or severely collapsed houses in Yamanashi, Kanagawa, Tokyo, and Shizuoka prefectures was caused (Chronological Scientific Tables).
