Earthquake in Eastern Shizuoka Prefecture on March 15
On March 15 at 22:31 (JST), 2011, there was a M6.4 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 6 Upper) at a depth of 14 km in Eastern Shizuoka Prefecture. The focal mechanism had a compression axis in a N-S direction.
The largest aftershock was a M4.2 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 4) at 22:40 on March 15. As of 15:00 on March 16, there were 45 aftershocks with seismic intensity 1 or over in the Seismic Region b.
For the seismic activity since August 1923, in the area around the recent event (Area c), there has been no earthquake of M6.0 or over.
