Earthquake Off-shore of Miyagi Prefecture on April 7



On April 7, 2011 at 23:32 (JST), there was a M7.1 earthquake (maximum seismic intensity 6 Upper) at a depth of 66 km, off-shore of Miyagi prefecture. This event is an aftershock of the 2011 off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake (M9.0). The focal mechanism showed a reverse fault with a compression axis in a WNW-ESE direction. This event occurred within the Pacific plate.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued Tsunami Warnings (Tsunami) for Miyagi prefecture and Tsunami Advisories for off-shore of Pacific coast of Aomori prefecture, Iwate, Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures.
After this event, there was a M4.7 (preliminary result) earthquake (seismic intensity 3) at 23:49 on April 7.
