Tsunamis Associated with the Earthquake under the Ocean near Sakhalin


The main shock (M6.4) of the recent seismic activity caused tsunamis observed in Wakkanai and Rumoi. Waveforms observed at the tidal observatories are shown in the upper right figure. Observed values are shown in the table below. A maximum tsunami height of 0.2m was observed in Wakkanai and Rumoi.

In the right figure, the dotted line shows the time of the main shock, blue arrow shows the arrival time of the first tsunami, and red inverted triangles show the times of the highest wave.
