Earthquake in Kashimanada on October 7
On October 7, 2004, at 22:01 (JST), there was a M4.4 earthquake at a depth of 59km under Kashimanada (maximum seismic intensity 3). The focal mechanism had a compression axis in an E-W direction. This event occurred within the Pacific plate. There was aftershock activity at a low level with two earthquakes smaller than M2.0.
In this vicinity (Area c), there have been no earthquakes equal to or greater than M5.0 observed after the M5.5 event on November 2, 1952.
