Systematization of Disaster Prevention Education and the Diffusion of its Implementation

The objective of this operation is the systematization of regional disaster prevention education and the wide diffusion of its implementation. Hence, it shall develop new teaching materials, etc., that utilize disaster prevention technology formulated through the organization of information on existing disaster prevention materials and programs, which are in turn based on accumulated local know-how from a wide range of disaster experiences, with organizations comprising the “Organization for the Development of Disaster Prevention Education” (Hyogo Board of Education, Kobe Board of Education, Kobe Gakuin University, Maiko Prefectural High School, Hyogo Earthquake Memorial 21st Century Research Institution, and the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution) at its core. In addition to the refinement of teaching materials through actual implementation in Kobe City schools and their showcasing at regional meetings, we will work toward diffusion through various supra-regional methods.

（1）Structure
Of the five organizations that comprise the “Organization for the Development of Disaster Prevention Education,” the project representatives of the Hyogo Earthquake Memorial 21st Century Research Institution and the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (which operate their own secretariats) functioned as representatives of the project overall (at the time), while the project representatives of the other four member organizations bore responsibility for four individual themes/topics.

（2）Activities
The Committee for the Promotion of Disaster Prevention Education was convened three times in 2008 and 2009, to deliberate on advancement of the project. Coordination between organizations was discussed adequately.

（3）Outcomes
Required outcomes were realized, namely “prototype development” and “local network formation through project implementation” in 2008, as well as “development of outcomes for national diffusion” and “national diffusion of network” in 2009.
