Northern Honshu
a) On 18 October an M4.0 earthquake occurred in the Shimokita region of Aomori Pref.
b) On 14 October an M5.4 earthquake occurred offshore of the Aomori-Iwate-Miyagi area. In mid-May there was activity in the same area with the largest earthquake registering M5.8. This most recent earthquake occurred south of the previous active region. Moreover, this earthquake was within the aftershock zone of the M7.5 earthquake that occurred in 1994 far offshore of the Aomori-Iwate-Miyagi area.
