Seismic activity in the whole of Japan August 2000 (Magnitude 4 and greater)


There were M5.7 events in two locations within the zone of activity of the 1994 earthquake in the sea east of Hokkaido. There was an M5.4 event in the sea off Fukushima Prefecture. There were four M5 class events, and one M6.0 event (and 138 events of M4 or greater) in the area from Miyakejima to Niijima-Kozushima. There were deep events of M7.3 and M5.1 in the sea near Torishima. There was an M6.2 event in the sea about 600 km south-southeast of Chichijima [the sea near Chichijima]. There was an M5.1 event off the southeast coast of the Osumi Peninsula [the sea near Tanegashima]. There was an M5.2 event in the sea near Amami Oshima. There was an M5.0 event in the sea near Taiwan.
