Seismic activity in the sea off Sanriku


On the 14th, there was an M4.9 event in the sea off Sanriku, and October 3rd there was an M5.9 event in approximately the same location, with the focal mechanism being a reverse fault type with a northwest-southeast pressure axis. This area is within the aftershock zone of the Sanriku Haruka-Oki Earthquake in 1994, which saw concentrated M5 class seismic activity from late April to early May of this year.
